The SGUO Board wants to welcome all our returning and prospective members to a new and exciting year! We hope will take this organization to the next level with new ideas and initiatives for this academic year. SGUO seeks to provide a friendly, tight-knit, and supportive community for students passionate about interdisciplinary studies within the #1 Public University in the United States! We hope to create an intimate and resourceful learning environment that provides ample networking opportunities for our members. In doing so, students will actively learn about the several job opportunities at the intersections of public health, medicine, law, public policy, ethics, and society. They will also be able to engage in discussions with multi-disciplinary professionals associated with UCLA's Institute for Society and Genetics (ISG) to further develop their passion for the field.
Joining SGUO will give members access to specific volunteer opportunities, networking and social events, along with a newly implemented leadership program! SGUO gives its members the opportunity to join and lead committees within the club (ex: event planning, marketing, educational outreach). These committees will give members not in the board a chance to develop, practice, and display leadership qualities that can help bolster your Human Biology and Society (HBS) application and future SGUO leadership applications. Additionally, these roles will allow students to truly immerse themselves in the initiatives of the club.
Members can also look forward to guidance from our well-established career panels, mentor/mentee program, application workshops, and Tea Time with Professors events. For all students interested in engaging with ISG either through the HBS major or minor, our club will provide plenty of opportunities for students to feel like the Institute of Society and Genetics is the right place for them!
